International Conference on Book Industry (ICOBI) 2008

The Conference

The 1st International Conference on Book Industry (ICOBI) will take place at the Putra Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia on Friday 4th to 5th April 2008.

Organized by the National Book Council of Malaysia (MBKM) and the Malaysian Scholarly Publishing Council (MAPIM), ICOBI is held in conjunction with the 27th Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair. ICOBI is to provide and opportunity for ~ 500 scholars, practitioners, writers, publishers, rights agents, sellers, importers, exporters, policy makers, government officials, researchers, students and interested parties from all over the world to meet and share their thoughts and views on how to improve the book industry.

The Conference will comprise a series of forums and parallel sessions presented by invited renowned keynote speakers and panelists, Asian country representatives as well as selected scholars, researchers and students.

Scope of Conference

The Conference will cover the general area of the book industry, with particular emphasis being placed on practitioner’s innovative solutions and insights of the book trade as well as research findings pertaining of effective publishing.

It is expected to include but not limited to the following themes:

  • Empowering the mind through books
  • Future trends and challenges of the book industry
  • Country report on the status and future plans of ASEAN’s book industry
  • Innovative strategies and smart partnership in the publishing and marketing of books
  • Issues on intellectual property management, royalties and book trade
  • The role of scholarly publishing in national and regional development
  • Balancing profit and social obligation in the publishing world
  • Promoting effective reading habits and writing in youth
  • Inculcating positive values and culture in the future generation through books
  • Winning strategies to produce best sellers and award winners
  • Issues on human capital development of the book industry
  • Trade barriers and regulations impeding growth
