Welcoming Speech from the Director of MBKM

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and may god bless you,

It gives me pleasure to make a welcome message through this website. Thank you to the organizer of Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2008 (KLIBF 2008) for giving me this opportunity.

Congratulations to the organizer for their hard work and meticulous plan so that the 27^th KLIBF becomes real. For MBKM, it is a keen hope that this event will give tremendous impact to the nation’s book industry. The KLIBF has been recognized at the international level. It is shown through the increasing number of local and foreign participants and the high quality of publications exhibited in the fair. MBKM appreciates the cooperation between government and private agencies to make Kuala Lumpur stands together with other cities in this world as the ‘city of the book’.

Beside the book fair, there are many programs that have been arranged during the KLIBF which will be held from 4^th to 13^th April 2008. It is where the public can find the variety of activities that related to reading, writing and publishing. Among them are, the International Conference of Book Industry, writing workshop, book launching, story-telling and painting competitions, book review, and so on. In conjunction with KLIBF 2008, there will be also the NILAM Award which is organized by Ministry of Education Malaysia. Hence, this coming KLIBF 2008 should be the ‘must come’ event to all book lovers, especially to the youngsters and professionals. Indeed, our young generation needs encouragement from family and learned community to hearten them becoming book lovers and avid readers so that Malaysians will grow to be a knowledgeable society.

Thus, let me take this opportunity to invite you to join us and experience the unique and fascinating KLIBF 2008. This is also a chance for us to support our book industry.
